If you have to yank your Nissan Rasheen's exterior door handle with extra force just to get inside, don't rush to blame the handle itself. On these 90s classics, the real culprit is usually buried deeper: a worn-out door lock and latch assembly.
The Symptoms
On this particular Rasheen, the door wouldn't release cleanly. You had to wrench the handle well past its normal bite point to pop the latch. Beyond being a daily annoyance, forcing a stubborn handle puts serious stress on the aged plastic handle casing and its metal linkage rods.
What Causes This Problem?
When the handle is pulled, this linkage operates the latch and releases the door. However, after more than 25 years of repeated use, the internal parts of the door lock assembly can become worn.
After more than 25 years of daily duty, the internal cams and return springs inside the latch assembly wear flat. That internal slop eats up the handle's mechanical stroke—meaning the latch won't trip until the handle is pulled past its intended limit. In this case, the exterior handle was structurally sound; the internal lock and latch assembly had simply reached the end of the road.

Replacing the Door Lock Assembly
To swap it out, we pulled the interior door card, unplugged the wiring harness, disconnected the linkages, and unbolted the tired mechanism.
Side-by-side with the fresh replacement unit, the old latch showed clear fatigue and excessive play across every pivot point. Once the new assembly was mounted in the door shell, we reconnected and dialed in the linkage rods for precise engagement.

Post-installation checks:
* Exterior door handle stroke and resistance
* Interior handle release action
* Manual lock and unlock operation
* Power door lock actuator response
* Crisp, positive striker engagement and release
The door now unlatches instantly with a light, positive pull.
Don't Ignore a Stiff Handle
If your Rasheen's door handle requires excessive muscle to unlatch, inspect the lock assembly before the linkage rods bend or the original plastic handle snaps. Swapping the outer handle won't solve the issue if the latch itself has lost its bite.
