Nissan Rasheen Power Steering Overhaul: Rebuilt Steering Rack, Pump, and Hoses

Removing the Original Power Steering Rack
Before turning any bolts, we inspected the steering rack, hydraulic lines, rubber hoses, and surrounding hardware. Decades of heat cycles take their toll. Even if the steering still feels fine from the driver's seat, hardened seals and cracked lines are usually already weeping fluid.

We disconnected the tie rods, hydraulic fittings, and mounting brackets to drop the tired factory rack.

Replacing the Deteriorated Rubber Hoses
The hydraulic rubber lines had hardened and cracked with age. Swapping the rack while leaving old hoses untouched just invites leaks a few months later, so we replaced every worn high- and low-pressure hose section as part of the job.

Installing a Rebuilt Power Steering Rack
In place of the worn factory assembly, we installed a professionally rebuilt rack. Each unit is torn down, inspected, resealed, and bench-tested with fresh internals. It brings back sharp, factory-fresh steering feel without needing unobtainable new-old-stock Nissan racks.

Sourcing a Discontinued Power Steering Hose
One molded power steering hose on this setup has long been discontinued by Nissan. You can't order it through a dealer anymore, but we tracked down a proper replacement through our domestic contacts. Two decades dedicated to this chassis means we know exactly where to find parts that most shops write off as unobtainable.

We torqued all flare fittings and renewed the clamp connections for a completely dry seal.

Replacing the Power Steering Pump
To complete the hydraulic overhaul, we matched the rack with a rebuilt power steering pump. On the Rasheen, a failing pump usually shows itself through:
* Whining or groaning under steering load
* Heavy or inconsistent assist at parking-lot speeds
* Fluid weeping past the front shaft seal
* Internal metal wear that can circulate and ruin fresh fluid
Tackling the rack, pump, and lines together flushes the entire circuit clean and resets the clock on the steering system.
Go, Turn, and Stop
At Rasheen-kan, our builds center on the classic Japanese fundamental: hashiru, magaru, tomaru—go, turn, stop. Fresh paint and custom upholstery matter, but only if the mechanicals underneath are sorted first
We refresh aging wear items before delivery so owners can drive with complete peace of mind from day one. Every build matches the car's current condition, parts availability, and the owner's goals—and we walk through every detail before turning a wrench.
