During a routine workshop inspection of this Nissan Rasheen, we spotted automatic transmission fluid seeping around the oil pan gasket.
On a 25-plus-year-old car, heat-cycled rubber gaskets eventually turn rock-hard and weep. A minor seep might seem harmless, but low fluid quickly brings pressure drops, slipping gears, and unnecessary transmission wear.

Removing the Transmission Oil Pan
We drained the ATF and carefully dropped the transmission pan.
With the pan off, we inspected the valve body area and evaluated the old sealing surfaces.

Decades of heat cycles had left the factory gasket brittle and completely flattened. Any leftover gasket material or road grime will keep the new seal from seating flush.
Prepping the Mating Surfaces
Removing the old gasket is one of the most important parts of this repair.
The mating surfaces of both the transmission case and oil pan were carefully cleaned. Old gasket residue, oil, and dirt must be removed without damaging the metal surface.
Clean mating surfaces make or break this job.
We thoroughly degreased the pan and transmission case, clearing away baked-on oil and old gasket material without marring the soft aluminum face.

Slapping a fresh seal over leftover residue guarantees the leak will come right back. Taking the extra minutes to prep the metal properly ensures a clean, bone-dry seal.
Installing the New Gasket
After a final degrease, we aligned a fresh OEM-spec gasket onto the pan.

We reinstalled the pan, torquing the bolts progressively in a crisscross pattern so the flange wouldn’t warp or pinch the gasket. After filling it with fresh ATF, we ran the transmission up to operating temperature to confirm zero leaks under pressure.

Mechanical Reliability First
A proper build is never just about fresh paint, custom upholstery, or retro trim.
For our workshop, sorting the engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes is the real foundation of building a reliable Rasheen. An oil pan gasket isn't something anyone notices at a car meet, but it makes all the difference when you rely on the car every day.
At Rasheenkan, we go bumper-to-bumper through every car we touch, keeping these quirky 90s youngtimers solid for the road ahead.
