What Paint Can Hide: Nissan Rasheen Wheel-Arch Rust Repair in Japan
A fresh coat of paint doesn't always tell the whole story on a 25-year-old vehicle
During the teardown and inspection of this Nissan Rasheen, we discovered corrosion hidden deep inside the wheel-arch structure. From the outside, the fender edge didn't look severely damaged at all. Once we stripped back the paint, factory seam sealer, and undercoating, the real damage came to light.

Hidden Corrosion Inside the Wheel Arch
On monocoque bodies like the Rasheen, moisture naturally settles between overlapping sheet metal panels. Trapped water and road grime sit in these cavities for decades, rotting the metal from the inside out.
By the time you see bubbling on the painted surface, structural integrity has usually already been compromised.

Simply slapping body filler over rusted metal is never an option in our shop. Bondo might hide the flaw for a few months, but rust will keep eating away underneath until the panel fails.
Our standard protocol is straightforward: assess how far the oxidation has traveled, cut back to clean, healthy steel, and fabricate fresh replacement metal.

Cutting Out Bad Metal & Rebuilding the Profile
Opening up the outer arch revealed significant deterioration along the inner wheel tub.
This is why proper metalwork matters far more than just a shiny topcoat. True build quality lives in the prep work you can't see once the car is fully assembled.
Every compromised section is cut out before fresh steel is welded in. We hammer and shape each repair patch to match the factory body lines, ensuring the Rasheen retains its original strength and OEM aesthetic.

Tackling Seized Exhaust Hardware
Decades of heat cycles affect the running gear just as much as the body. Exhaust studs, nuts, and flange bolts endure constant exposure to moisture, thermal shock, and road salt. Over 25+ years, they fuse together into solid rust.
Forcing a stubborn bolt with a breaker bar will just snap the stud, leading to hours of drilling and tapping. To avoid that, we use controlled torch heat to expand the nut and break the rust weld cleanly.

Taking the extra time on small hardware preserves original threads and keeps the undercarriage serviceable.

Built to Last: Looking Past the Surface
When buying a classic JDM import from overseas, it's impossible to confirm structural health from auction photos alone.
Fresh paint makes for great photos, but it won't fix hidden chassis rot. That's why comprehensive metal repairs, mechanical baselining, and transparent photo documentation are central to every Rasheenkan build.
We don't build cars that merely look good on delivery day—we build them to be driven and enjoyed with confidence, wherever they go.
Every Rasheen arrives with its own unique history, and we make sure it's fully sorted before writing its next chapter.
